Welcome to our comprehensive guide on the Global Sidebar in Sana. Throughout your journey on Sana you can always find the trustworthy and adaptive navigation tool to the left of your page.

The sidebar lives everywhere on the platform and allows you to easily access different sections and features without having to click through multiple pages. It is always easy to know where you are and where to go.

You can choose to have the sidebar open or collapsed:

  • In the collapsed state, you still get the context on where you are. If you hover it, it will expand temporarily

  • If you want to leave it open, simply click the ->| button up in the right corner of the sidebar. Click on it again to activate the collapsed state.

What is the value of the sidebar?

  1. Seamless navigation: The global sidebar allows users to navigate across the entire platform with ease, providing context on where they are within Sana. This feature enhances user experience by making it easier to move from one point to another, regardless of where they are on the platform.

  2. Personalized recommendations: The global sidebar features a 'For You' section that provides personalized recommendations based on the user's needs and interests. This feature makes relevant content more accessible, enhancing the user's learning experience.

  3. Efficient content browsing: The global sidebar includes a areas where users can browse the content they have access to, from teamspaces to private content, or content shared with them. This feature improves content management and accessibility, making it easier for users to find and access the information they need.

We can divide the sidebar into 3 main areas:

Main navigation

Go from point A to point B no matter where you are in Sana:

  • Home - Find recommended courses and content available to all learners across your organization

  • Search - Sana's Search and AI assistant

  • My Library - See all content assigned to you as well as your progress and due dates

  • Create - View all courses that you own or collaborate on. You can pin the courses you are actively working on for easy access. Additionally, you have the ability to duplicate or move content simply by dragging and dropping it into a desired teamspace

  • [Admins only] Manage - Manage users, groups, programs, certificates and more

Teamspaces

A Teamspace is a collaborative area where you can organize your content and share it for others to edit, comment or view. Teamspaces are located in the bottom of your sidebar. You can learn more about Teamspaces here.

Create new

The 'Create new' button in Sana is your starting point for crafting engaging learning experiences. Clicking this button allows you to create new content, including courses, Live sessions, and Teamspaces, tailored to your organization's learning needs.

Intelligently adaptive

The Global Sidebar in Sana is designed to adapt intelligently to the context of your current environment, providing a seamless navigation experience. When you're within a course or a live session, it transforms into a 'card navigation view'. This feature displays a structured overview of the course content or session agenda, allowing you to easily navigate through different sections or cards, enhancing your learning or facilitation process.

πŸ’‘ Note: that you can only navigate between cards in a Live session if you are a facilitator

πŸ’‘ While in the course view, you have 3 other navigation options that present themself above the course title:

  • Back takes you back to the normal global sidebar view.

  • Search allows you to search for content on the platform.

  • Glossary allows you to add a glossary, a list of key terms, abbreviations, and acronyms from your course made easily accessible to learners as they progress through the course.

When returning to the normal view after editing a course, you will find the latest course you edited at the top of the global sidebar view, allowing for seamless transitions:
